The writing aims to be a satirical essay, using humor to hide a deeper meaning. David Sedaris does a masterful job at this as he disguises a motivational moral underneath a story about learning a language. He litters his writing with subtle details that help convey his message. Throughout the composition, the audience can infer a light-hearted or witty tone to the writing.
