Jean Kilbourne’s main point is about how the media is misrepresenting women as sex symbols, She speaks about how women are being degraded in today’s society advertising mainstream, and being exploited/ characterized inferior too men. Kilbourne said that “ the woman is rewarded for her sexuality by the man’s wealth” and she described how a tie company advertised ties as seeing the ties laid on a messed up bed, as if implying that this brand of tie will help men gets laid. That displays mixed message to men that a tie will actually help them score with women. She also shows an advertisement in which a man is standing over a woman while the women is saying, “no” but laughing or possibly screaming. Women have enough trouble getting men to respect them without these types of ads causing more harm to us. I also agree with her argument about the fact that most men can't take no for an answer, it almost looks like in some of the ads that the woman is saying no, can be considered “playing” hard to get and a come on. This sends a false message to men about women true intentions. This article is directed for the public to recognize the danger to women and make us all aware in society that this is unacceptable and need to be stopped. Women are harming their bodies nowadays just to have fifteen minutes of fame. That is not what we need to be displaying to our young girls. We are more than our body image. As Kilbourne says "Ads don`t directly cause violence, of course. But the violent images contribute to the state of terror, turning a human being into a thing, an object, is almost always the first step toward justifying violence against that person.” The result of this is how women have to deal with being seen as a thing "it does damage, and it sets girls up for addictions and self-destructive
