Quindlen's appeal is mostly emotional. She uses two different situations that the readers could relate to or care about. In paragraph three she writes about these two boys that murdered people and their mental health issues(Quindlen 344). She uses these two different situations throughout the entire essay, writing of different events that happened leading up to the murders. She even writes about when the boys were younger and things that happened then that would have affected them now.
