Grendel, even with all the messed up stuff that goes on in that story, the story is very well told. The story of Beowulf isn't as described, you can feel the emotions and see the places he is describing in Grendel. Every metaphor and rhetorical devices the author uses gives the story more depth. The book Grendel has a better argument because Grendel portrays Beowulf with more detail, it shows the soft and harsh side of both characters. Beowulf is just a messed up being, but Grendel has so much emotion built up inside of him. As he experiences life he learns more about nature and living things. Grendel comprehends emotion, unlike Beowulf. “The stars said nothing, but I tried to ignore the rudeness” ( Grendel page. 53), Grendel understands
