In Richard Matheson's excerpt , I am Legend the author uses a variety of rhetorical devices to emphasize Robert Neville's frightening experience. In lines 1-5 the author uses similes to create a vivid picture of what Robert Neville sees. He states " mans throat moving like clammy turkey skin ," to compare the mans throat to seemingly disgusting , loose turkey skin. To show how Neville is portraying this man whom is a total stranger and has never seen before in his life. Furthermore , " his fingers like skeleton fingers ," is also used to portray this mystery
