Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez There are a lot of officers that made an impact during their transition in the Army. Some of them made that impact positively and some of them were surrounded with controversies. In that area, falls the officer I’m going to talk about, Ricardo Sanchez. Ricardo Sanchez was born on September 9, 1953 in a poor Mexican American family in Rio Grande City, Texas. He is a former lieutenant general in the Army who tried to become a senator from the Democratic Party in the United States Senate election in 2012 but failed. Sanchez studied in the University of Austin Texas for one year, where he enrolled in the ROTC and got a scholarship. Then, he transferred to A&M University in Kingsville Texas, where he graduated with two major in mathematics and history. Sanchez graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate, graduating in the top 20% of all ROTC cadets in the nation, afterwards, he entered to the military service as a commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army in 1973.

For example he became platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After several years, he transferred from the infantry to armor branch. He received promotions regularly and was stationed at posts in the United States, and abroad. He also served as battalion commander during Operation Desert Storm. There, he led his Infantry Brigade unit to Basra without any casualties. Afterwards he got promoted to Colonel and took command of the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division.
