The man known as Richard Kuklinsky was quite famous in the crime world for a time because of his extremely brutal murders. His childhood was not an easy existence, he was severely physically abused by both parents and bullied in school because he was an easy target. All of this had a major impact on his psychological well-being; he expressed his inner anger by capturing stray cats and dogs and mutilating them. These acts later led him to accidentally murder someone who was bullying him. This later led him to eventually become a contract killer. Richard Kuklinsky’s early life had a major impact on him. One day, Richards father was highly intoxicated and beat his brother Florian to death. This caused him to hate his father even more than before; the actions of his father caused him to leave his family behind. His father was not the only parent to beat Richard, his mother also liked to beat him. On top of all that he was bullied at school because he was a small, and timid child. All of this led him to capture stray domesticated animals and torture them. (). The reason behind this is quite clear, he had pent-up aggression towards all who wronged him. The animal abuse was an outlet for his inner anger. This is an act that most serial killers commit before their acts escalate. He later encountered one of his bullies which resulted in Richard accidentally killing the bully. This murder made him feel empowered and in control for the first time. As a husband, he had an unhealthy attachment to his wife, and was very quick to anger. There was a moment where his wife wanted to go out with her friends without Richard, he was unable to contain his rage in this situation. Like his father, he physically abused his wife numerous times (Rob Dyke). He seems to display the characteristics of someone with paranoid personality disorder, and antisocial personality disorder. The definition of paranoid personality disorder is “distrust, suspiciousness, and hypersensitivity regarding the motives of others” (D. Sue, D. Sue, D. Sue, S. Sue p. 472). Richard displayed great hypersensitivity throughout his life, starting from his very first murder as a boy. He was well known and feared as an adult because of his short temper (Rob Dyke). As mentioned previously, he seemed to also display the characteristics of someone with antisocial personality disorder. The definition for this being “a failure to conform to social and legal codes, a lack of anxiety and guilt, and irresponsible behaviors” (Sue,. et al p. 475). Richard very clearly displayed most of what the definition describes. He was asked in an interview if he ever felt anything for his killings, he said he would just kill without thinking (DOCUMENTARIES, 2013). He also had a severe gambling issue.
