Richard Loeb, above average intelligent, but still a cold blooded killer. Richard was the son of a wealthy Chicago family. His father was a lawyer, the executive vice president at Sears, Roebuck and Company. Everything seemed to be going right for Richard, but he had dark personality, that was often masked by his charm. Loeb was extremely bright and admitted to the University of Chicago at the early age of fourteen. Loeb was primarily so bright because he had a nanny, who also served as another teacher. The nanny was extremely strict about academics and and behavior standards, but that didn’t affect Richard much. He was fascinated by crime and mystery books as a child, but the nanny didn’t approve, so he was forced to read in private, which made it like a game to him. Certain behavioral aspects generated thought when Richard was a young child. While he was very charming, he was very skillful at lying, in order to avoid getting in trouble. Although primary school and high school was very easy for Richard, college proved to be a different story.

Both couples, were just that couples. While Richard and Nathan shared a sexual relationship, they were still together, like Dick and Perry. As mention in both chilling stories, Dick Perry, Richard, and Nathan, were all classified as above normal intelligence; yet, both defence attorneys demanded psychiatric examinations, hoping they would be insane, resulting in a shorter sentence or no sentence at all. All four boys were classified as sane. Both killing couples left an eerie feel to the towns where the crimes were committed.
