Imagine having to keeps the Gods from fighting, having to keep the world from entire destruction, and at the same time, protect your friends and family. In the mythological fiction book,The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson discovers his destiny, which is to save the world from demolition. The jovial protagonist of the novel, Percy Jackson, is claimed as the son of the Sea God (Poseidon), and has to go on a quest with two fellow companions with the task of discreetly retrieving a stolen lightning bolt. Without retrieving the bolt, the gods could cause the world to decease. The Conflict and theme of The Lightning thief send an important message that can be related and to real life situations.

“Besides if my mother was in the underworld…”(Riordan 144). In this quote, Percy talks about how he isn't only going on the quest for the lightning bolt, he is also going to fight for his dead mother's life. This reflects the theme, the importance of family, because it shows how Percy is going into the underworld and is going to fight one of the biggest gods to retrieve his mother. “I dove through the explosion. The carpet burst into flames; the heat was so intense, it nearly seared off my eyebrows”(Riordan 208). This quote is talking about how Percy is resiliently fighting the gods and is continuously almost dying, he almost singed off his eyebrows, because he is risking his life for his mom. It symbolizes the importance of family because Percy is doing something for his mother that he doesn't have to do, but knows he should because family is important and she is the only parent he has left. Both the theme and the conflict have relations to reality that can be symbolized and interpreted
