In modern day america the citizens of this nation have many differing views on gun laws or policies. These gun laws or policies all in some way shape or form pertain to the second amendment of the U.S. constitution. The amendment in its entirety reads, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (“Second Amendment.”). Many citizens of this great nation may not even know the second amendment in its entirety, because of the main focus on the last phrase of the amendment. “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. This amendment has sparked a good amount of arguments, and rightfully so with all the unwell individuals taking the lives of the innocent every other week. …show more content…
This is where you get into the collective rights versus individual rights aspect. The truth of the matter is that the second amendment is on the Bill of Rights so the right is to the individuals of this country, but if you have a brain in your skull you know good and well that there are some individuals who have no business owning or possessing a firearm. Which brings me to the main point of this paper, the campus carry policy. I believe it is a good initiative because if someone tried to attack Angelo State I would rightfully defend myself. However, there are many other problems regarding these types of gun laws, because even if the individual doesn't own the gun legally there are countless ways to acquire a weapon illegally. This along with many other problems that could occur will be discussed
