Hi Jarret, I completely agree with your analysis of the rise of the wealthy class following the end of the Civil War. When the Civil War ended, the United States was launched into the Industrial Revolution, which created an elite wealthy class composed of the new captains of industry. They were known to the working class as “Robber Barons” because they exploited their workers to amass their fortunes. These “Robber Barons” effected through commissioning artist to decorate their home, and funding art budgets for institutions such as museums and libraries.
