Robert Emanuel Walter. He was born in Bryn Athyn which is a small religious community in Pennsylvania, of 1920. Harry Charles Walter, and Myra Sauders Walter were his parents and he was their third child. His nickname growing up was Woiky he got called it by his friends and family. “ Wokiy was a lifelong resident of the borough, attending both the Bryn Athyn Church School which was the elementary school and the Academy of the New Church which was the high school, graduating in 1939”.(Feerrar) He enters the Army right before the U.S. entered World War II. He served in the army specializing in the Air Corps. After a little over 18 months of training Woiky became a pilot for a B-17, They were massive. The B-17 was a heavy plane bomber and it was massive it was mostly used for the US Air Force for bombing and the plane had four engines.He only lost 1 crew member his entire time having this job. The reason for flying two was because his first one got shot down. They were losing their engines the plane was going down they were maybe about 4,000 feet in the sky 80 miles per hour they had to throw stuff like their equipment so they could gain speed for going down they dropped athir bomb right before one of their engines broke.They had a head wind of 60 miles per hour coming at them they got attacked on their way back.
