Discovery has many different implications on people who are affected by it. There may be both negative and positive implications for the parties affected but nevertheless the outcomes will provide a new revelation that will alter their understanding. In the poem ‘Mending Wall’ by Robert Frost, this is portrayed through the metaphor of the wall, acting as a barrier between the two neighbours, but also as a tool to maintain the way of life, separated but nonetheless maintained. In ‘V for Vendetta’ by James McTeigue, this is communicated through V’s actions and the impact it has on society. His actions have both negative and positive implications for society as it opens their eyes to the power they have collaboratively, as well as to the corruption to which their society has been blind to for years. This is deeply explored throughout ‘Mending Wall’ as the neighbour who does not believe in the purpose of the wall is not able to share his life with the other neighbour, leaving them both in the dark about each others life. “He moves in the darkness as it seems to me”. The quote further supports the separation and distance between the two neighbours for he is unable to even predict what the other neighbour is doing, emphasising how little the two neighbours know about each other. Furthermore, the quote “If i could put a notion in his head” suggests that the man would like to share the discovery that is each other with his neighbour however the neighbour wishes to adhere to the traditions that have existed throughout history.
