Aside from the use of dead drops, there is certainly a lot more we can learn from Robert Hannsen. Vernon's assessment is correct in that Hannsen's actions were most damaging to our national security. His spying was conducted over a period of two decades, and resulted in the deaths of intelligence agents. His is widely viewed as contributing towards the most damaging acts against or national security (Sanford & Arrigo, 2007).

We have discussed some of the motivating factors which may contribute to the insider threat. These factors may include personal gain or revenge.
