The Madness Conquered in Three
“The only way to survive in a mad world is to embrace the madness.” In a world, there is a place over runned by zombies, but in another world, it is filled with monsters. In this world, monsters and dragons live among the people and are very vicious animals and are far from “normal.” You just have to embrace the madness. In Robert Nye’s Beowulf: A New Telling the normal is fighting against monsters and other mysterious creatures and finding the good in all of the bad. In the story, there is a character named Beowulf and he heroically demonstrates bravery, strength, and wisdom. Even in a mad world trying to embrace the madness.
The first characteristic that Beowulf shows is how he is very brave. In the book, there are many ways that Beowulf shows bravery and even risking his own life for the greater good of humanity. To show this trait, it doesn’t come easily, but Beowulf demonstrates this trait perfectly. (Since the definition of strength is; a good or beneficial quality or attribute of a person or thing). First, the book states that, “Beowulf had pulled out Grendel’s arm from its socket!” (Nye 42). Furthermore, this proves that Beowulf has immense strength, and is very strong to take on Grendel, then even ripping off his arm. The last piece of evidence that shows that Beowulf is a very strong person because it says, “Beowulf put his hands around Her neck and strangled Her” (Nye 71). Her is Grendel’s mom and Beowulf shows a lot of strength to take Her head and kill Her. Also, it shows that he is strong enough to take on a strong, vicious beast like Grendel’s mom.
