On September 1st 1978, a man by the name of Clayton Dawson was brutally murdered by his young nephew of seventeen, Robin Scott Greathouse. Clayton had raised Robin since infancy and they even referred to one another as “father” and son.” Robin and Clayton got into an argument early in the morning on September 1st because Greathouse had not been attending school regularly. Fearing a beating, Robin grabbed an axe that he saw and hit his uncle with it. After realizing that he was still alive Robin grabbed a nearby rifle. The two struggled over the weapon but eventually Robin Greathouse seized control of the gun. Greathouse turned the gun upon his uncle and shot him eight times as he was backed up against the walls in the trailer they lived in. …show more content…
I learned that what the internet says and what the locals say are two different stories. The internet says that Robin hit Clayton with an axe, shot him, and then took him to UU Highway to later be burned. The locals say that we have a neighbor who still lives here that was involved in the murder because the two boys were into drugs. They say that the boys wanted the money that Robin would be entitled to if his uncle was dead so the boys would have drug money. Per our neighbors, the two boys barged into the trailer after a long night of partying and for some reason Clayton was awake in living room. They grabbed a .22 caliber rifle and backed Clayton Dawson back against the trailer wall and took shot after shot. They say the gun must have been reloaded and they probably missed him many times as well because there were many (more than eight) bullet holes still left in the walls. After shooting him, the boys chopped up his body in the house and wrapped the pieces in a blanket. People say that the floors were still soaked and stained with Dawson’s blood long after the murder. The young boys loaded the body in the back of the victim’s truck and dumped his body in the edge of the woods at the intersection of UU and T Highway and came back to the body the next day to burn it. I personally do not know the truth and probably will never know it although I hope to learn it in the future. In my opinion I believe that the other boy may very likely have been involved with the murder but it is not my job to jump to conclusions without having the least bit of evidence to back it up. I have heard about this murder for years and not once have I ever heard the other boys name mentioned until I started considering the murder and questioning others about it. In the future I intend to question that neighbor who may or may not have been
