Rock & Roll music is the most influential genre of music. Rock and Roll music was created in the 1950’s and didn’t become big until the late 1960’s through the early 1990’s. This music was popular among younger people in the 1950’s because it seemed to people that it was a form of rebellion during a time of conformity. Rock music made black musicians more and more popular because it was created and played by mostly black musicians at first but then inherited by white musicians. Rock music changed people’s everyday daily life, fashion, and attitudes in general. Rock music gave people a sense of freedom and a way to express themselves. David showed an interest in music from an early age and began playing the saxophone at age 13. He was greatly influenced by his half-brother Terry, who exposed young David to the worlds of rock music. But Terry had a mental illness, which forced his family to put him into an institution. Terry had committed suicide in 1985. This had a great impact on David’s life which later lead to him creating the song “Jump they say.” After Graduating Technical High School at the age of 16, David started working as a commercial artist. At this job, he met many different bands. This led to him creating a group himself called “Davy Jones and the Lower Third.” David later changed his last name from Jones to Bowie because he was influenced by the Bowie Knife developed in the 19th century. David left the music business after a while of being unsuccessful. It wasn’t until the 1969 release of the “Space Oddity,” which was the first moon landing, that bowie hit big time. From there on, David Bowie’s music business started to become more and more successful. It wasn’t until the mid to late 1970’s when he hit his height of
