Great role models don’t always have to be famous or athletic. Sometimes role models are normal people that are never noticed. Lemon Brown, in the story “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myer, was a great influence to a young boy he encountered called Greg. Lemon Brown makes a great role model because he is fearless and protective.

Lemon Brown’s courageous action shows that he will risk anything just to save what is important to him. When the thugs came and wanted to take Lemon Brown's treasure, he showed no fear. Even though the thugs had a big pipe he still wasn’t afraid of them. Both Lemon Brown and Greg were holding hands, then Lemon Brown, “ Released his hand and moved toward the top of the stairs.” He then threw himself on the thugs, and Greg saw him,”Hurl his body down the stairs at the men who had come to take his treasure,”(Myers

Although Greg was a stranger to Lemon Brown, he still treated him like he was his son and was protecting him from the thugs. When the thugs left, Lemon Brown,” looked out the window again.” After he checked to see if the thugs were still outside Lemon Brown told Greg, ”Looks like they’re gone. You get on out of here and get yourself home.” He then walked Greg to the door and,” looked out, saw the street was clear and told Greg to scoot on home”(90). It is clear that Lemon Brown is very caring to Greg because he checked to see if the thugs were gone so that Greg can return home safely.Some people wouldn’t have treated Greg the way that Lemon Brown had treated him.

Because Lemon Brown is fearless and protective, he makes a great role model. Some people forget that there are people that look up to them, and they have to always be great role models so that others can learn from them. Lemon Brown taught Greg to always save what’s precious to yourself even if you had to fight against powerful
