Murder. Murder is a sickly crime committed by those who let evil blind them from seeing the bad in their actions. Some may believe murder is meant to be blamed on those who physically kill the person, but in most cases those who kill never work alone. Although the murderers never work alone, usually the “partner in crime” is seen as innocent, since they didn’t technically commit the crime or “do the dirty work”. However, in the play Macbeth those who committed the crime and those who planned the crime are both at fault. Macbeth may have killed the king himself, but Lady Macbeth pushed Macbeth into doing it. Furthermore, Macbeth doesn’t stay at fault for the murder alone because through manipulation and planning Lady Macbeth contributed equally as much to the crime, which leaves them both at fault. In the case of the play, Macbeth, manipulation plays a key component in leading to the murder of King Duncan because Macbeth allows Lady Macbeth to manipulate him into killing the king. She knew just what to say to get under Macbeth’s skin, “Will you take the crown you want so badly, or will you live as a coward, always saying ‘I can’t’ after you say ‘I want to’?” (Shakespeare 1.7. 42-44). She knew saying this would cause Macbeth to start questioning his decisions. Since he is a man who is meant to be seen as a strong warrior, his ego couldn’t handle being looked at as a coward. However, although Lady Macbeth called him a coward, Macbeth could have easily stuck to what he believed and focused on doing the right thing. His words show that at a point his morals were in the right place, “By committing violent crimes we only teach other people to commit violence, and the violence of our students will come back to plague us teachers.” (
