I think Odysseus does not deserve the leadership award because he does not own up to the leadership position. In my opinion, Odysseus makes a lot of mistakes in the story of the cyclops. When Odysseus and his men are closely watching these cyclops he notices one in the distance that is secluded from the others. In lines 72-73 it reads “Odysseus and his company of men set out to learn if the cyclops are friends or foes”. Instead of Odysseus putting himself second he decides for every body if their putting themselves in danger or not.
