Motivation is key to getting things done. If people were not motivated, then some of today’s inventions, such as the I Phone or lightbulb, would not be here today. In Anthem, Equality is motivated to invent a light source other than a candle. He is motivated by his want to learn, his “wish to know about all things which make the earth around us.” Equality had different reasons to be motivated to conduct his experiments. His primary motivation though, was his “wish to know”. Equality had always “wished to be sent to the Home of the Scholars.” He could then learn more of what he loved, “the Science of Things.” When Equality found the tunnel, he was able to expand on his quest for knowledge. He “wished nothing, save to be alone and to learn” through his experiments that he conducted. Equality had the motivation to go down to the tunnel every night because he “wish[ed] no end to [his] quest” of learning more. …show more content…
Without his motivation, Equality would have never experimented. No experimentation would have led to no new light source. Therefore, Equality is right to be motivated by his need to learn. It was Equality’s seeking for knowledge in the first place that led to new discoveries and can lead to more. His learning and conducting experiments could have led to a better society. Equality’s motivation could also have led to better ways to care for the people of his society. His incentive does not come with the drive to hurt others. While some might have used their motivation to hurt others for their search for knowledge, Equality does not want to upset anyone else with his newfound creation. He would rather see his creation be used to “bring a new light to men.” Seeking for knowledge, Equality could open new doors and help others with what he
