It is my understanding that this play is intended to be an examination of women’s rights and patriarchy, as well it intends to explore the of being a person in this world. Throughout the entire play the main character Katherine Par questions sexism, she questions the sexist way her society works and she questions the sexist remarks made to her, such as when King Henry says his leg doesn’t hurt because he is a king she replies by sarcastically saying “a man and a king, maybe there’s a badge for that”, or when she tells Bess that “girls are smart, they just aren’t legal”, but obviously her biggest power move is in her devotion to education and to getting equal rights for Henry’s daughters Mary and Bess.
