What we do have is some choice over what we make of our lives once we're here.” In the novel “Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry” The story is about a black family the Logan family and they owned their own land to grow cotton, they lived in a town where every day they went through discrimination, racism, and segregation. Because the plantation owners, the store owners, and other sharecropping families were all white and tried to take the Logan family's land or make them lose their house or not make enough money to pay for their land or house. But most of the white people are sharecroppers and the Logans have their own land and because of that they can make more money fo the family. Simms. When Big Ma, Cassie, and Stacey come back from Strawberry and when Cassie tells Uncle Hammer what Mr. Simms did to her by. She told him that Mr. Simms knocked her into the streat, Uncle Hammer didn’t like to hear that. Uncle Hammer goes to fight with Mr. Simms for doing that to Cassie. That means that Uncle Hammer cares about his family and doesn't want white people to treat them badly because of their skin color, Uncle Hammer could have been hung or put in jail for going to fight Mr. Simms. Uncle Hammer also shows courage when he drives by the Granger car on the side of the road with a car that looks exactly like Mr. Grangers car which could have had consequences too. Mr. Granger wanted the land from the Logans so he did not like the Logans. Uncle Hammer showed courage because he went to try to hurt a white man named Mr.Simms even though he knows that no one would help him fight Mr.Simms and the other white people would help
