The purpose of a background research is to help identify important facts related to roller coasters ,and also lead you to other important facts about roller coasters.basically to ensure that the prototype that is created meets the principles. The goal of a roller coaster has to be safe to ride on, able to be stable ,and most important make the customers happy. In order to make the roller coaster safe they should know what to avoid when building a roller coaster. This project is about potential and kinetic energy, work and power. In this project we will be building a roller coaster that must have a camel back, loop, wide turn, incline/decline and funnel. the roller coaster will be built using only with the following materials: 20 manila folders, 1 roll of scotch tape, scissors and straw. …show more content…
There are two types of energy behind the roller coaster. Potential and kinetic energy. It gains potential energy when rising and kinetic energy when going down. Kinetic energy is when an object is in that has motion., whether it is vertical or horizontal motion. The formula for kinetic energy is: (KE= ½ mv^2).Potential energy is the stored energy of position possessed by an object. The formula for potential energy is: (PE= mgh). There are also forces behind the roller coaster. Frictional, centripetal, gravitational, and inertial forces. Frictional force is a force that is created whenever two surfaces move or try to move across each other. Centripetal force is a force that makes a body follow a curved
