The Roman Republic was not very democratic because since all voting had to be done in Rome itself, only about 2% of the population actually voted. The first reason only a very small amount of people voted was because only of-age male citizens could vote, excluding women, children, and non-citizens. According to document C, the second reason 98% of the population didn’t vote because most eligible voters did not have the time, nor the money to travel to Rome to vote, leaving only the wealthy to vote. In comparison to the United States, this was not very democratic since the U.S. has mail-in ballots and different voting stations throughout the country.
