ACT 3 SCENE 1
This assessment will be about Act 3 Scene 1, I will be writing about how this part sets up the rest of the play.
In Act 3 Scene 1, Shakespeare builds on the idea of how violence and the hatred led the two families to fight causing the death of important characters in the play. Shakespeare sets the scene for all the other events that occur in the play.
It is in Act 3 Scene 1, when the play really becomes a tragedy. The scene begins with Mercutio laughing with everyone and then enters the happy romantic Romeo. Romeo and Mercutio had an argument with Tybalt. The argument led Romeo to refuses to fight Tybalt because now that he has married Juliet, Tybalt thinks that Romeo is tricking him but still refuses. So Mercutio decides to fight for Romeo because he has dishonoured himself, Romeo tries to stop them fighting but ends up getting Mercutio killed, filled by his anger which guided him to kill Tybalt. And the scene end up by punishing Romeo from entering Verona again.
Shakespeare started the scene by describing the weather in Verona and how it’s effective on people’s temperament. “I pray thee, good Mercutio, let's retire: The day is hot, the Capulets abroad, And, if we meet, we shall not scape a brawl”. Shakespeare presented Benvolio as peace keeper and a loyal friend; also he presented him as a person who is always out of trouble. Benvolio is trying to warn Mercutio that Capulet are all around this place and he is afraid that they will get in an argument or a fight which he knows it’s not good for both families. The weather is mentioned in this first part to give a hint for the audience that the people will get angry very quick also they will get in trouble easily.
When Capulet came, the situation changed from calm to a bit of anger. Because the two families when they meet, a fight should go on. Especially the weather is really supportive to this situation. Shakespeare presented Tybalt as strong characteristic also sharp and smart. Wh3en Tybalt entered the scene; he was looking for Romeo because he wants to fight him for being the husband of his cousin Juliet. Tybalt was pretending that he came for peace, but everyone
