Parallels Between Romeo and Juliet, and The Outsiders There are many parallels between Romeo And Juliet and The Outsiders. Although the settings and time periods are very distant, there are many similarities when it comes to the characters, decisions, and outcomes. Both the play and the novel include rivalry, anger, and death all in their own ways. Making the both as alike as they are different. The first and most noticeable similarity is the two rival parties. In Romeo And Juliet there is the Montagues, and the Capulets. The two biggest rival parties in all of Verona. Each member of each party hated the other party with all of their heart. They broke out in an all out rumble in the streets of

Romeo’s best friend Mercutio had been stabbed in a duel with tybalt. Tybalt had appeared taunting the Montagues and Mercutio leading them to duel. Romeo had tried to break up the fight but instead allowed Tybalt to strike Mercutio under his arm. Romeo had grieved over his friend's death. Ponyboy’s best friend Johnny had died because of them trying to save kids from a burning church. A school was having a picnic near the church Ponyboy had used as his hideout. On Ponyboy and Johnny’s way back they saw the church up in flames. They had ran in trying to save the kids and Johnny didn’t make out on time. He died because of his burns and broken back. Ponyboy had been mentally scarred because of Johnny’s death. The last and one of the most noticeable similarities is both tales ended with at least one death. Romeo being devastated by Juliet's ‘death’, took his life to be with his true love. Once Juliet had awakened from her sleep she saw Romeo dead on the floor with poison in his hand. Juliet also being devastated by her love’s death had taken her life with Romeo’s dagger. In The Outsiders, one of Johnny’s best friends, Dally, went crazy and robbed a gas station because of his anger.
