We are performing act III of Romeo and Juliet. The three scenes we have chosen to act are; scene I, III, and V. Scene I is the fight scene between Tybalt and Mercutio, and later Tybalt and Romeo. This scene opens with Benvolio and Mercutio teasing each other about who is quicker to pick a fight. Tybalt arrives and him and Mercutio draw their swords. Romeo, not wanting a fight between his dear friend and his wife’s cousin, tries to stop it by stepping between them. Taking the opening, Tybalt slashes towards Mercutio under Romeo’s arm and kills him. Romeo heartbroken that his best friend has just died goes after Tybalt and in his thoughts of anger and revenge kills Tybalt. Soon after the Prince, the Montagues, and Capulets arrive. Lady Capulet sees Tybalt and says if the Prince’s word is good he will sentence Romeo to death for killing a Capulet. …show more content…
Throughout the play I got the impression that she always wanted what she thought was best for her daughter even though Juliet might not have seen it this way. She is very loyal to her family, and I understand why she wouldn’t trust Benvolio and wanted Romeo dead in scene I. In act III she only has two appearances in the scenes we chose, one in scene I and the other in scene V. In scene I she is very upset about Tybalt’s death and she vehemenously wants Romeo dead. She is not onstage in scenes II or III but makes an appearance in scenes IV and V. In scene IV, which we are not performing, she is talking to Lord Capulet and Paris. They’re discussing Juliet and Paris’ marriage and I think Lady Capulet is feeling she is doing what is best for her daughter. She genuinely likes Paris and wants him to marry her daughter to carry on their family lineage. In the final scene she is angry with Juliet for refusing the offer and denying their family. When Lord Capulet goes a bit crazy after finding this news out she feels worried about his violent anger and tries to calm him
