Who is going to be punished or pardoned?
“Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast” (Romeo and Juliet 2.3.94.). Friar Lawrence should have listened to him own advice, as well as sharing it with Nurse. In Romeo and Juliet, Benvolio should be pardoned and Nurse and Friar Lawrence should be punished.
Benvolio should be pardoned. Benvolio is trying to break up Samson and Abraham from fighting. Then Tybalt enters and wants to fight Benvolio. “I do but keep the peace. Put up thy sword,/ Or manage it to part these men with me” (Romeo and Juliet 1.1.78). This quote shows that Benvolio is trying to keep the peace between the two families. He would rather them just be peaceful and not fight, rather than ignore the opportunity and fight. Another way

Juliet had sent Nurse to Romeo to get the detailed on Her and Romeo’s wedding. She was pushing and pushing to know when and where but the nurse was messing with her for a while. “Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence’s cell./There stays a husband to make you a wife./...Hie you to church. I must another way/To fetch a ladder, by the which your love/Must climb a bird’s nest soon when it is dark./I am the drudge and toil in your delight,/But you shall bear the burden soon at night./Go. I’ll to dinner/...” (Romeo and Juliet 2.5.62.). This quote shows that she knew before Juliet did, about Juliet’s wedding so she could have not told Juliet, or lied and told her a different time. This is another example as to why Nurse should be punished. Romeo had just killed Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Nurse told Juliet, but she made it seem as though Romeo was killed, not Tybalt. Then, Nurse said what happened, and Juliet defended Romeo. “Hie to your chamber. I’ll find Romeo/To comfort you. I wot well where he is./Hark ye, your Romeo will be here at night./I’ll to him. He is hid at Lawrence' cell”- (Romeo and Juliet 3.2.139). This quote shows that she still knew about Romeo and Juliet, she encouraged them, she never tried to stop them from seeing each other. She kept trying to get them together as often as they could. All these examples show that Nurse should be punished since she never tried to stop Juliet and Romeo’s …show more content…
Romeo went to Friar Lawrence to wed Romeo and Juliet. At first the friar was reluctant. “…For this alliance may so happy prove./ To turn your households' rancor to pure love.” (Romeo and Juliet 2.3.87). In this quote, it shows that Friar Lawrence knew about the wedding, before it happened. He would have been able to tell Romeo no. This would have saved a lot of characters from dying. Here is another quote that proves that Friar Lawrence should be punished. Juliet went to Friar Lawrence to talk to him, and to try and get help. Juliet’s father wants her to marry Paris. But she is already married to Romeo. She does not want to marry Paris. Juliet is trying to find a way out of marrying Paris. “Hold, then. Go home, be merry. Give consent.../Let not the Nurse lie with thee in thy chamber./Take thou this vial, being then in bed,/And this distillèd liquor drink thou off,/When presently through all thy veins shall run/A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse/Shall keep his native progress, but surcease./No warmth, no breath shall testify thou livest./The roses in thy lips and cheeks shall fade/To paly ashes, thy eyes' windows fall/Like death when he shuts up the day of life./Each part, deprived of supple government,/Shall, stiff and stark and cold, appear like death./And in this borrowed likeness of shrunk death/Thou shalt continue two and forty hours,/...In the meantime, against thou shalt awake,/Shall Romeo by my letters know
