Romeo and Juliet Rough Draft Love makes you do crazy things especially if your brain is underdeveloped. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story by WIlliam Shakespeare. “The mysteries of the adolescent brain” by Sarah Jayne-Blakemore. Sarah Jayne-Blakemore’s thesis on adolescent development sheds light on some of the nonsensical decision making in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet as characters certainly face the unpredictable mood swing , self consciousness , and impulse control issues. First some of the characters in Romeo and Juliet take dumb , unnecessary risks that only teenagers would make and also there was major mood swings throughout the story. An example of an unnecessary risk in the story is when Romeo goes out and sneaks into a Capulet party because he is a Montague and Montagues were not allowed in this party. Like when Tybalt kills Mercutio just because he was angry, then Romeo not being to able to control his impulse issues did not think about what he was about to do , and just ended up killing Tybalt. That is how Romeo ended up being banished . Or like when Juliet takes the poison to fake her death so her parents will think she is dead, but then Romeo found out that Juliet was dead not knowing that she was not actually dead went and took a poison that killed him, then Juliet woke up and killed herself by stabbing herself in the stomach with the knife that Romeo had with them after she had seen that Romeo was dead next to her. Sarah Jayne-Blakemore's thesis on adolescent brains and how teenagers prefrontal cortex are still developing , which is the part of the brain that is involved in decision making. Romeo and Juliet are still teenagers which explains why they took so many unnecessary risks that could have killed them and is also the reason why them both and 4 other people ended up
