Romeo And Juliet Violence Analysis

In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare juxtaposes love and violence for the purpose of showing how such different things could work hand in hand. As the play progresses, the reader discovers that every violent act Romeo commits is out of his love for Juliet. One can argue that the passion Romeo and Juliet had for each other was driven by the violence and impulsivity of Romeo’s character. For example, when Romeo snuck into the Capulet’s yard underneath Juliet’s window, he says, “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise fair sun and kill the envious moon…” (78), he is referring to Juliet as the sun, which is something essential to all life, meaning Romeo’s love for Juliet is so strong, that life without her is simply, inconceivably impossible.
