Acting without thinking can have tragic consequences is theme to both Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet and the 1961 movie West Side Story; however, Romeo and Juliet are much more impulsive than Tony and Maria. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo pulls out his dagger and offers to stab himself. “And sayest thou yet that exile is not death?”(III, III, 43) Romeo in this quote, is explaining to the Friar how being banished is worse than death because he cannot live without Juliet. In the movie West Side Story after Tony kills Bernardo he doesn’t think about killing himself he runs to Maria’s house and
