He admires Juliet. This is shown when he says: “What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and Juliet is the Sun.” Romeo is comparing Juliet to the Sun. “Juliet is the Sun”, is a metaphor because she isn’t actually the Sun. The Sun is the light and the guidance and happiness and when you think of sun you think of summer. Summer is usually happy time, so Romeo is saying that Juliet is happiness and light and that she is the one. That quote really shows how he has feelings for Juliet. It is very effective because it creates imagery and it immediately makes us think that Juliet is a very beautiful girl. Also when he says: “The envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief that thou, her maid, art far more fair than she”, it shows us that he is a soft guy, a sweetheart, who is really serious about love. We get this impression because he compliments Juliet in such a sweet way, he is saying that Juliet is much prettier than the Moon and that the Moon is jealous of her. That is a big compliment, since we generally find the Moon’s silvery glow beautiful and he is saying she is much more beautiful than the Moon. He continues complimenting her in a really sweet way when he compares her to an angel when he says: “Thou art as glorious to this night, being o’er my head, as is a winged messenger of heaven.” What he is saying is that she is as glorious as an angel.
