Lorelai was Rory’s only guardian to raise her because her father just decided to take off because he had an affair with another woman and got her pregnant. Lorelai gave Rory the best life possible and doing it completely without a father or a man in the family. I believe that Lorelai is a permissive and authoritative parent as a single mother. As a permissive mother, she allows her to do whatever she wants to do except for doing illegal things like going to nightclubs, drink, smoke or do drugs. As a single mother, she points out how she allows her daughter to act like like her best friend. She prefers Rory to act like a friend than respecting her as a parent. Lorelai was teasing Rory for breaking into the school to ring the school bell just for morning breakfast. There were no consequences for Rory. Another episode was where Lorelai came over to have a sleepover with Rory and friends. She started to act like a young teenager was rated the delivery boy who came over with food. Obviously, that's a bad example of parenting because she's being a bad influence to the younger people who are just below her age. She's an authoritarian parent as well because she allows her to do things, but there are time limits such as curfew that she has to follow without disobeying it. As you can see that, Gilmore Girls are signifying because it portrays single motherhood and the reality of a woman raising her only child. Lorelai is an educated mother who has a part time job who also is a homemaker. She provides the positive attitude as a role model for her daughter
