Others opinions often sway people in fear of being looked down on or being an outcast due to having different beliefs. A lot of the time, people are afraid to voice their thoughts because they don't want to be attacked by societies mainstream opinions which are followed by the ignorant people who live in it. People seldom express their ideas due to this. However, it is imperative to stand up for what you believe in because you could be inspiring others, pressing for change, or even earning respect from your peers. One person that is notorious for standing up for what she believed in is Rosa Parks. Rosa influenced so many people to take a stand and make a difference. Ultimately, she sparked a great movement which caused civil rights activists to boycott city buses for over a year until the city removed the unjust law. They are using their platforms to voice their opinions and stand up for what they believe is right. These athletes are making severe issues heard and are pressing for political change. In the book to kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch defends a black man who gets accused of raping a white woman. The whole town is against it, but he continues to do it. By the end of the trial, they find tom guilt. Although he was found guilty, the fact that the jury took so long to deliver the verdict shows that Atticus made them think twice about it. As he exits the courtroom, all of the African Americans stand up for his as a sign of respect. Atticus gained respect by standing up for his belief that Tom was innocent even when no one else
