Citizen kane is one of the greatest movies to ever be directed by orson welles and it proves to be true by all of the mise en scene principles woven into the film. The film deals with a lot of different principles within those of the cinematic aspects, literary aspects, and dramatic aspects. When a reporter is assigned to decipher newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane's dying words, his investigation gradually reveals the fascinating portrait of a complex man who rose from obscurity to staggering heights. Though Kane's friend and colleague Jedediah Leland and his mistress, Susan Alexander, shed fragments of light on Kane's life, the reporter fears he may never penetrate the mystery of the elusive man's final word, "Rosebud." The cinematic aspects consist of lighting, camera angles, and special effects. The first aspect that is covered in the cinematic area is the lighting. Lighting in films serves many purposes such as highlighting a certain character or even bringing an emotion about a scene. A good example of lighting in the film is when they show Charles talking to people they dim the lighting so it is difficult to see him and the person he is talking to, i don't know the reason for this but they always dim the lights on Charles. The next aspect that falls under the cinematic category is the camera angles used during the scenes. The camera angles can provide a sense of power or even if a character is inferior it shows by the camera angles used by the directors. A good example of camera angles showing power for a character in the film is when Charles Kane is giving his speech and the angle of the camera is below him to show that he has the power over the citizens and he is also an important figure in the film. The final aspect that is brought about in the film is the special effects used for the scenes. The special effects used in this film are used to provide a sense of perspective for the viewer by adding sound to events that happen so it makes it more realistic for the viewer. A great example of special effects being used in citizen Kane is when Charles gives his speech to the people and it pans out and shows a lot of people in the place however that was all the special effects by the
