Service above self is crucial for the enrichment of society, and I have worked throughout my school career to follow by firm belief in the great virtue of generosity. Whether it be spending hours after school helping paint my AP English teacher’s classroom, tutoring underclassmen when they need help, assisting my church in maintenance and running events, or volunteering at the Muskegon Humane Society, I always try to find the time to contribute to my community when I find time in my busy schedule as a student and musician. I have also found ways to bring my passion for music into my community service. I participate in band fundraising events, help band students in and out of class with understanding their music and how to play it, perform for churches, and play taps for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Memorial and Veterans’ Day services. My plans for the future include attending a music school and studying in preparation of becoming a classical trumpet performer, specializing in orchestral performance. A Rotary Scholarship would be of great assistance to me as I follow this career path. Aside from my need for financial aid, I feel I am eligible for the Rotary Scholarship because it will not only enable me to both live out my dream as a performer, but help pay for an education in which I will acquire skills and experiences outside my home community. Moreover, I will be able to then use the skills, experiences, and knowledge I gain to further enrich, aid, and inspire others on a global scale. I am confident that, with a college education, I will grow to be a successful musician, and I hope to be able to inspire others to do similarly through my passion for music, trumpet, and
