The Rottweiler is a member of the canidae family. Rottweilers are large dogs who are hypermetric and mediolinear in body shape, with a mesocephalic skull. The coat of Rottweilers is a short, black and tan coloured doubled coat, that is coarse and lies flat. The Rottweiler is characteristically black with tan markings (which can vary from rust to mahogany) over both eyes, on the cheeks, muzzle, chest, legs, and beneath the tail. Rottweiler bitches can range from 58-63 cm in height and weigh from 35-48kgs while male Rottweilers can range from 61-69 cm in height and weigh from 50-60kgs.

They are very intelligent dogs, though they can be very stubborn and headstrong; because of this training from a young age is needed. With training Rottweilers make excellent guard-dogs. Rottweilers, despite having a ‘vicious’ reputation, are excellent pets with a training and a loving family.

Environmentally Rottweilers need a lot of space as they require a lot of exercise. Along with being taken for daily runs or walks, Rottweilers are large dogs who love to exercise so plenty of space to roam. A kennel outside should be large enough to protect the Rottweiler from the elements, preferably with pet bedding to make it comfortable!
