Ruby Bridges was a tremendous role model in the African-American community. She was one of the very few African-American children to attend an all-white school. However, there were some civil disturbances from the parents of the children that attended that school, meaning that federal marshals would have to get involved. "...federal marshals drove Bridges and her mother five blocks to her new school...large crowds of people were gathered in front, yelling and throwing objects." There was only one teacher in the entire that was willing to teach Bridges, Barbara Henry. For an entire school year, Henry taught Bridges alone, not only with her studies but with the experience of being ostracized. Her first few weeks in school were not her easiest.
