We all have that one person that inspires us in life. That person for me is Ruby Bridges. On November 14, 1968, Ruby Bridges made history by becoming the first African American child to attend William Frantz Elementary, an all-white elementary school in the south. Bridges had to be escorted by U.S. Marshalls to protect her. When Bridges and her mother arrived at the school, they were met with a large crowd shouting and throwing things at them. Bridges showed that she was courageous, determined, and a soldier.
Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954, in Tylertown, Mississippi. Bridges parents, Abon and Lucille Bridges moved them to Chicago when she was four years old. In kindergarten, Bridges was one of the selected African American children
