Ruby is an eighteen year old female who is leading a lifestyle towards harmful alcohol consumption which is affecting her relationship with her family. Ruby is a University student in her first year. Ruby is an only child in her family and does not have stable familial relationship with her parents. Ruby socializes with a drinking peer group and no longer maintains contacts with high school friends.
The problems presented are alcohol consumption leading towards harmful consumption. It is evidenced by her binge drinking social life with her peers at weekends. He does not have a residence and lives on the streets. His physical health has been deteriorating especially his eyesight. He has no family members to seek help and refuge from. The problems presented are heavy alcohol consumption and dependence. The alcohol dependence and consumption is evidenced through his daily drinking habit. It is also further evidenced through his deteriorating health and passing out on the streets.
Treatment plans includes the use of creative therapy for Sammy through the arts he can exhibit myriads of emotions and memories (Stephenson, 2006). The creative therapy could be used on individuals with physical disability to empower, cope and adjust with age related or other issues (Houlahan, 1998). The rationale for using creative therapy on Sammy is due to the empowering and creative aspects of the therapy. It also provides an environment in which people with disabilities could express their issues with drawings, painting and sketches (Qiang & Dodder, 2002). The goal of the treatment is to help Sammy increase awareness, cope with stress and achieve self-fulfilment. The materials and interventions could be chosen that are appropriate for Sammy’s needs to achieve the therapeutic goal (Houlahan, 1998). Her finances are spent on the drugs. She has not had contact with her family and they do not know about her drug issues. The problem presented is the use of heroin and dependence on it. It is evidenced by her arrest of soliciting and through her finances. The rationale for using motivational interviewing because it influences clients with logic and it was also founded on the premise of dealing with substance abuse (Hettema, Ernst, Williams, & Miller, 2014)..
