Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706? In the story “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling, a skillful mongoose, named Rikki, has to protect an entire family from the snakes! With the snakes everywhere, no one is safe. They want the garden to themselves. The only reason Rikki is alive, is because he shows to be brave, lovable, and protective. Rikki shows great characteristics. To begin with, let’s start off with Rikki being brave. Rikki is brave because he did something no mongoose would ever do. When Rikki, a young mongoose, fought Nagaina, an adult snake, he chased her into her hole, which no mongoose would ever do. No mongoose would do this because it is basically suicide. Since it’s so dark in there, the mongoose will never know when the snake can strike back on its neck. Also, Rikki is still a young mongoose, yet he still fights two adult snakes that are 3 times bigger than him. One last example is when Rikki fights Nag alone in the bathroom. When Rikki bit Nag’s neck, Nag swung him around the bathroom, but Rikki still held on even though it hurt him. This shows that Rikki is brave and can handle any snake. Next, I can say Rikki is lovable because when Rikki lies in bed with Teddy, he also protects him which a lot of pets wouldn’t do. Also, when Rikki first meets Teddy, Rikki climbs all over Teddy’s body. Rikki climbs under Teddy’s chin, on top of his head, and around his legs.
