Rules And Controls In Ayn Rand's Anthem

In this story there are many rules and controls. The rules in Anthem are there to make sure that everyone is treated equally. In the city the people are not to have affairs with anyone. They are supposed to follow a strict protocol to live their lives in a peaceful manor. These rules indirectly show collectivism in a rude way which caused a rise in lack of individualism. The citizens in the city in Anthem were expected to follow every single rule existing in that society, or else they would receive a severe punishment or even be put to death. The Council of Vocations will decide on the citizens present and future life. They will assign them a house that they will work in for their entire life. This assignment will occur after they stay in The Home of the Students, where they are together with “brothers” for many years before being separated for the rest if their lives. He created a society in his mind. To Equality the society he created in his mind was one that would make everyone live a better life. He does not really show emotion but he does seem to want his society to become reality. Equality’s dream society would not have the rules and controls that the society he lives in now does, because if it did then why would he think of a society in his mind that would be better than the one has now? A better society than the one that Equality lives in now would be one where everyone could choose their own lifestyle. In this society there is a house that chooses where everyone will work, and by choosing where they work they are choosing their lifestyle.
