The Rush-Bagot Treaty, signed between the United States and Britain, played an important role in avoiding future conflicts and saving money for both nations. Signed in 1817, the Rush-Bagot Treaty started because of an exchange of letters between Richard Rush and Sir Charles Bagot, which was later passed on to be a treaty when the U.S. Senate approved the letter, giving them the authority of a treaty. The treaty helped cut down on how many ships were on the Great Lakes, which stopped future conflicts and also reduced the amount of money both nations would have to maintain all of the vessels. The Rush-Bogart Treaty allowed both nations to have a peaceful resolution and avoid conflict, but it also removed strain on the economies of the nations.
