SAFE Balance Clinic Case Study

In February, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a student nurse at one of Fresno State’s SAFE Balance screening sessions. Fresno State’s SAFE Balance clinic provides services for the elderly population of senior citizens sixty-five years and older with the mission of decreasing the elderly populations risk for falls by raising awareness of the many factors that could contribute to falls. The SAFE Balance Clinic is strictly run by students and instructors as a multi-disciplinary approach in order to advocate for the elderly in our community by educating them in ways to reduce their risk for falls. The reason I chose to be a part of this community event was because it wasn’t until last semester that I came to realize that as people grow older many factors in their lives change and one of them is their independence. …show more content…
Failing to be able to be independent and live on their own can really take a toll on their lives, resulting in further health complications, one of them being depression. As a student nurse, I want to be able to assist the eldery in continuing to live their lives as independently as possible. By participating in this community event, it gave me the opportunity to assist the elderly by promoting optimal health and well-being by ensuring a safe living environment to prevent falls. While volunteering at this screening event I was part of a team, which consisted of two nursing students, two pharmacists students, one kinesiology student and one physical therapy
