You hear about it every year, you are told to study for it, that it will make or break your college dreams. If you have not guessed it by now, chances are you have not taken it. Today we are going to break down one of the most stressful tests in high school, the SAT. Just how much does the SAT effect your college admission process? Sources such as Eduventures say, “College admissions have moved away from their reliance on SAT and ACT scores and moreover acknowledge the value of well-rounded students.” They even point out that some colleges simply do not require the test score for their admissions process. Overall, Eduventures states that the SAT does not determine if you are a well-rounded student or not, it can even distract you from other …show more content…
Instead they require the Program Evaluation Review Technique, or more commonly known as the PERT. The PERT is a way for colleges like PBSC to gage where you stand and what classes you should take. While some argue it is easier than the SAT the PERT can be bypassed by doing well on your SAT. The SAT can be debated whether it really is a crucial part in the admission process; however, there is something most articles do not bring up: scholarships! The SAT alone can guarantee you thousands of dollars in scholarships. It is simple: the better you do, more scholarships and money. Scholarships such as Florida’s Bright Futures scholarship requires a 1290 on the SAT for their highest ranking. This score can also be bypassed by getting an AICE diploma; however, this shortcut won’t work for most SAT based scholarships. To SAT or not SAT? That is the question for you. The answer really comes down to what you want to do and the path you choose to go down. Yes there are many alternatives to the SAT and it is possible to succeed without doing well on it; however, if you want the most sure fire way to boost your college experience the SAT is the way to go.
