Saint Jean Baptiste de la Salle was born on April 30, 1651 in Rheins, France. He was born into and raised by an imperial family, and he was the oldest of nine other siblings. His parents were Louis de La Salle and Nicolle de Moet de Brouillet. He got his head shaven at age eleven, and he became canon of Rheins Cathedral at age fifteen. His mother died on July 19, 1671, and his father died almost a year later on April 9, 1672. After his parents died, he schooled his brothers and sisters. Jean went Paris to get ordained and in 1678 he got ordained. In his life, he indicated that teaching was a key thing. He created many teacher colleges. He created one in Rheins in 1687, another one in Paris in 1699, and a finally one in Saint-Denis in 1709.
