People often do bad things when put in a situation of fear, chaos, or lack of social order. Humans are naturally selfish and evil and when they are put in one of these situations it shows who they really are and what they would do. For example in a situation of survival the boys in the novel Lord of the flies fight for survival but as they continue to fight the boys turn corrupt. Many of the boys turn to evil and selfish ways one of these boys was Jack. Jack was the leader of the hunters he is driven to madness the longer he stayed on the island. The salem witch trials is one of the best examples of this issue. The salem witch trials was a series of prosecutions and hearings of people accused of witchcraft. Mass hysteria meaning panic and confusion began to spread 20 innocent people were killed. People feared for their family and themselves. Many people were scared of the supernatural or the unknown this caused more panic and that was more fuel to the fire. In the stanford prison experiment there were several different pieces to the puzzle. One thing they did was they gave some people a role of power but after awhile that power became too much for them. Them having power made them inhumane and this made the prisoners riot. The prisoners were forced to do tasks they didn’t want to do. Guards would make prisoners wake up at early times in the morning and make them do unsanitary tasks such as clean toilets with their bare hands. Guards wore silver sun glasses so prisoners couldn’t look them in the eyes giving the guards a sense of power and making them seem inhuman. The prisoners believed that they couldn’t leave the experiment this also caused panic in the prison. Prisoners were threatened with going into the hole, the hole was a pitch black closet that they would be forced into without any type of light or human contact making them insane and paranoid.
