C: Hello, welcome to Timeless Thermostats, my name is Cristina. What brings you in today?
J: Hi, I’m John/Johnathan. I’m looking to replace my thermostat that just decided to stop working.
C: It’s a good thing that it stopped working before the really cold Chicago weather starts.
J: The weather right now feels perfect, but I do want to have a working thermostat before the Winter weather hits.
C: Jonathan, do you mind if I ask you a few questions so that I can show you the thermostat that Would best fit your needs and your home?
J: Sure.
C: What kind of features did your current thermostat have and were you able to program or create schedules for when you were away, or for summer versus winter?
J: It had quite a few features, but I never used them. Whenever I tried to set up a heating or cooling schedule I would get so frustrated. I felt like the instructions I was able to find online were written in a different language
C: Do you know if it had any special energy efficiency features?
J: I’m not sure. You mean there is a thermostat that actually has features related to saving energy? I think I’ve waste a lot of money with my old thermostat since I wasn’t able to program it.
C: Yes, the thermostat I have in mind for you Jonathan, has features that help you save energy and let you know if your heating and cooling habits are energy efficient.
C: If a thermostat existed, that has programming and energy saving features with easy instructions, and little to no effort required to set up, would you be interested in finding out more and purchasing something like that?
J: Absolutely, but after my experience with this thermostat and trying to program it…I don’t even Want to think about how frustrating it will be to try to install a new thermostat and program it.
C: Jonathan, the thermostat I’m going to recommend to you is called NEST . It works with most systems And it comes with simple, easy to read instructions which include straight forward pictures so you know exactly what you’re doing every step of the way. You can also contact Nest Support and they can help you over the phone. Typically, 3 out of 4 customers who install their own Nest do it in 30 minutes or less. But, if you still don’t feel comfortable installing the thermostat yourself, you can set up an appointment with a Nest Pro near you and they can come out and install it for you. When it comes to programming the NEST, I have more good news for you. You don’t have to do anything at all to program the thermostat because it will program itself. Beginning Day 1, you just set your thermostat to the desired temperature when at home, before you leave, when you get home from work, before bed, just like you did with your previous thermostat, but after about a week, your Nest has gathered enough information regarding your desired temperatures that it creates a custom schedule automatically and starts setting the temperatures for you. You don’t have to get frustrated and any changes you make, the Nest will take those into account and adjust your schedule for you. The frustration you felt with your old thermostat is non-existent with the Nest.
C: Let me ask you, just a few more questions. Since you weren’t able to program you last thermostat, were there times you left you heat running while you weren’t home? Or have you walked into a warm house in the summer and had to wait until you were able to get a comfortable temperature?
J: Yes and yes.
