Walking is one of the main points of symbolism in the book A Long Walk to Water. Throughout the book they show it in the pain Salva has to go through to complete his walk. And the problems he is stopped by. The walking symbolizes us going through life, We are always just going and going. The walk is never really over, always one foot in front of another. For example in the sentence “ The pain was terrible, Slava tried to bite his lip, but the awfulness of that never-ending day was too much for him.” Walking is shown through this statement because even though the walking for Salva is painful and makes him want to just surrender but he is just putting one foot in front of the other to live. He was to walk through all the pain he is feeling through
